Jared Love on Why Fitting Matters More Than the Latest Driver Release
The Coolangatta & Tweed Heads Golf Club Head Professional explains why a new driver only performs when it suits the golfer swinging it

TWEED HEADS SOUTH, NSW, 23 October 2026: Each season, the major golf brands release new drivers that promise more speed, more forgiveness and more distance. According to Jared Love, Head Professional at Coolangatta & Tweed Heads Golf Club and the PGA professional behind Jared Love Golf, the model name on the club head matters far less than whether the club has been set up for the person using it.
The Hidden Specifications Behind Every Driver
Most drivers come off the rack with a standard shaft, loft and length chosen to suit a typical buyer. Very few golfers swing like a typical buyer. Two players on the same handicap can have very different swing speeds, tempos and angles of attack.
A shaft that is too light or flexible for a player can produce a wide spread of shots. One that is too stiff or heavy can make it harder to launch the ball high enough to carry it a good distance.
Jared Love says many golfers blame their own swing when a new driver fails to deliver. In his experience, the head is often fine and the real problem is a shaft, loft or length that does not match the player. A fitting shows what is actually happening, so only the parts that make a difference are changed.
What the Data Shows
Every session at the Jared Love Golf fitting studio uses Trackman launch monitor technology. Trackman measures club head speed, ball speed, launch angle, spin rate, angle of attack, carry distance and how widely shots are scattered. Those figures show whether a golfer is losing distance through excess spin, a launch angle that is too low or too high, or poor contact on the face.
Testing starts with the player's current driver, which becomes the benchmark. New heads and shafts are then compared against it. Sometimes the result is a new driver. In other cases, the right shaft or a change to the loft setting on an adjustable hosel gets the existing club performing far better, saving the golfer the cost of a full upgrade.
Lessons Learned on Tour
Jared's approach to equipment was shaped in part by his time as a caddie on the Japan Tour and the PGA Tour, where professional players treat club specifications with great care. As a PGA member, he has built extensive knowledge of club fitting and club repair, and he coaches golfers of every level, from beginners to elite players.
He believes club golfers should take the same approach as tour players, who check a driver against their numbers before putting it in play. That matters even more when a new club is a significant expense.
Advice That Isn't Tied to One Brand
The studio stocks TaylorMade, Callaway, Titleist, Ping, Mizuno and Srixon, with both standard and aftermarket shafts available. Because no single manufacturer is favoured, recommendations come from the golfer's numbers rather than a sales target.
Booking a Driver Fitting
A driver golf club fitting at Jared Love Golf costs $100 and takes about 45 minutes. Half of the fitting fee is credited back with any purchase. Golfers wanting a broader review can book an iron fitting ($125), a combined driver and iron fitting ($200) or a full set fitting covering driver, woods, irons, wedges and putter ($350).
The studio is around 40 minutes' drive from central Gold Coast and is open every day from 6am to 6pm. That makes it a convenient golf club fitting Gold Coast option for players across the southern Gold Coast and the Tweed.
