Brisbane Mathematician Cansu Olce Receives 2026 Global Recognition Award for Excellence in Mathematics Education

BRISBANE, QLD — September 2026 — Brisbane mathematician and mathematics educator Cansu Olce, founder of A Star Maths, has been recognised with a 2026 Global Recognition Award for Excellence in Mathematics Education, marking another milestone for the growing Queensland education business.

With more than 15 years of experience in mathematics education, Olce has built A Star Maths around a specialist approach to mathematics tutoring and academic resources for Australian students.

Based in Macgregor, Brisbane, A Star Maths supports students from primary school through to Year 12, including students studying Mathematical Methods, Specialist Mathematics, General Mathematics and IB Mathematics.

Alongside tutoring, Olce has developed an expanding collection of mathematics resources designed specifically around Australian senior secondary curricula.

The collection includes resources for Queensland’s QCAA curriculum, New South Wales HSC Mathematics, Victorian VCE Mathematics and South Australian SACE Mathematics, alongside further resources for other Australian curricula and the International Baccalaureate.

Olce says one of the motivations behind developing the resources was the difficulty students can experience when trying to find enough high-quality practice material that closely reflects the mathematics they are actually studying.

“Students often understand a concept when it is first demonstrated, but mathematics requires much more than understanding one example,” Olce said.

“They need enough carefully structured practice to recognise different versions of a problem, choose an appropriate method and apply it independently under exam conditions.”

This philosophy also influences the teaching model at A Star Maths, where students work through targeted mathematics problems while receiving individual guidance when misconceptions or gaps become apparent.

Olce’s work spans students at very different stages of mathematics education, from building fundamental numeracy skills in younger students to preparing senior students for high-stakes external examinations.

The international recognition comes as A Star Maths continues expanding both its Brisbane tutoring operations and its collection of Australian mathematics resources.

“For me, the objective remains centred on making mathematics more accessible to students,” Olce said. “Mathematics should not feel like a subject where you either have the ability or you do not. With clear explanations, appropriate practice and the right support, students can make significant progress.”
